My daughter is only one but I constantly worry that she is getting enough exercise and not watching too much TV. Although she loves HI5, the music from commercials, and TV theme songs, I make sure she is only watching short intervals and has other activities surrounding her to keep her mind busy.
We go to the park most days and also have outside time before dinner with our dog. She loves playing with our dog, patting her, sitting on her bed with her!
I found a great article on fitnessandkids.com about 'Growing Healthy Kids'. Its all about different ways to keep your kids active. I have included a brief version below:
1. Play with your kids. When you are playing, you forget that you are also burning calories and creating a healthier lifestyle. (That's good for you as well!)
2. Buy a video game that promotes physical activity. If they have to play video games buy one that is interactive and gets them moving! Your kids will not even know they are exercising!
3. Involve your child in planning and cooking healthy menus.
4. Liven up "plain old water." Its a bit cold at the moment but water is the best fun!
5. Don't be a coach potato! Lead by example.
6. Be supportive. If you child is struggling with their weight be supportive and encourage healthy eating habits, set goals and make they know they you love and support them no matter what!
